17. A good friend

The person who has been there for me most of the time is my cousin. She is an exceptional, helpful, reliable and energetic person. We have been spending time together since she was born, so we are very close. She is just three years younger than me, and I think that is one of the reasons why we get along well. She likes helping other people to deal with their problems and she loves going out as much as she loves staying home to watch a film or series with me. She is also one of the most family-minded person I’ve ever known. She is a little bit smaller than me. She has beautiful brown eyes and dark brown hair. She likes meeting her friends and the friends we have in common. She is always there when I need someone and, of course I’m there for her too. She gives me pieces of advice when I need them and tries to talk to me at least on once a day. We have been through a lot of good moments, also bad ones, but the most important thing is that we have always known how to deal with them and ge...

16. The right age to get married

The right age to get married is not written I any rule or something like that. It is true that in a lot of countries, girls, especially teenagers, can get married at a very early age and to old man because of their religion or culture. I think this is a wrong idea because it is not okay to marry a minor. But, in the other hand, if you live in a country were this is not a custom, you could get married whenever you want, obviously being a person of legal age. Narrow-minded people would think it is okay to marry someone at an early age, and they might be pressure you to do it if you are in a relationship. But, what about people who haven’t found their soulmate yet? Maybe they are 35 years old and they don’t have a stable relationship and they would like to find a couple. I believe that society shouldn’t pressure other people to get married at a very early age because they can’t do it whenever they want, of course, when they are both adults and are aware of what they are doing.

15. Teenagers

Being a teenager nowadays is quite undervalued because society has the idea in their minds that we are the lost generation. From my own experience, being a teenager is one of the best parts of the life, where you learn about a lot of things and you think about what to be in your future. Being a teenager is not drinking alcoholic drinks at an early age or having all the day your phone y your hands to see posts on social media or char with friends. For me, being a teenager is more than negative things that society think about us. Being a teenager is being a constant person who wants to rise above himself to be a better person in the future. Being a teenager is having bad days when you feel that you can’t do more than what you are doing, and glorious days when you feel that you are able to do whatever you propose to yourself. Of course, we fail when we try new things and that’s because we are learning new things every day to train ourselves for the outside world. When we are teenagers, we...

14. Cell phones

Use of cell phones has been increasing in the last few years. It’s a fact that there have been so many improvements and a lot of progress in mobile phones and electronic devices in general. It is proved that since 2010 the use of cell phones has been rocking up more and more every day. New generations are growing up while they get along with new technologies and that could have a lot of advantages, or, on the contrary, disadvantages. A continuous use of cell phones can be dangerous for our health because we could have headaches or eyestrain when we have been a lot of time in front of a screen. A point in favour of the use of cell phones is that people can learn a lot of things if they try to use them to be more cultured. I think that phones are not here just to use social media, chat or watch videos, but to learn new things if we give them a correct use. From my point of view, we must understand that we can’t be looking at our phone almost every minute because we must relax a little bi...

13. Using e-mail

Nowadays, in our society, e-mail is not that used because there are a lot of social media that have been proved to be better than e-mails. I can say that I just use e-mail because need it for my student and professional life. In our society, it is not usually to use e-mail, for example, to ask your mum how it is going. We have downloaded a lot of social media networks, such as WhatsApp or Instagram, that let us share information about us, pictures, quotes, and that give the opportunity to chat with other people. It is known that in every country, they don’t use the same social networks as us, so maybe, if we want to talk to people from other countries, we must use e-mail. In a normal day, I just enter on my e-mail account to see if there are any new message from any teacher of the university or any new task, and, I know that if I weren’t studying at university, I would not open it because I have my accounts on social networks such as Instagram or WhatsApp to chat with people.

12. A big mistake I once made

The biggest mistake I’ve ever made was trusting one person that said to be my friend. I met her when we were 12 years old and we were friend for almost four years. When I was spending time with her, I had the feeling that something strange happened to her, so I always tried to ask her, but she never told me anything. One week, when we were 15, she decided to be alone at school and she told me that she had to think about something, but she never told me. One day, a group of girls came to the place I was spending time with my group of friends and she asked us what we did to that girl. As we had anything to say, they decided to go to talk with her. My group of friends just knew that she wanted to think about something bur she didn’t wanted to tell us, so we left her alone. One day, while being in class, we heard that girl had been our friend for all that time because they had nobody to be with and she lied to other people about us because she wanted to meet new people. From that moment ti...

Practice 10. Do schools kill creativity?

Analysis of Ken Robinson's Ted Talk 1. What’s the topic of the TED talk? What’s the main idea? When does the speaker introduce his idea? How? The topic is education. The main idea is creativity. He introduces his idea saying that creativity should be treated as important as literacy. He tells a joke of a little girl who only paid attention to the art classes. 2. What are the means of support used by the speaker to c onvince us that his opinion is right? Provide examples. He uses jokes, personal experiences and sarcasm to convince us. One of the examples could be when he mentioned a boy who improvised at the Christmas play. He also tell us the story about a girl that teachers thought to have a disorder because she just concentrated when she listened to music, and at the end of that story, he said that girl is now a famous dancer. 3. What’s the speaker’s conclusion? How does he  “conclude”? He concludes giving us an advice that consists in letting young...

11. The working student

Being a student and having a part time job can make you have a lot of problems in your days. Of course, I know that if you have a job while you study, you will have enough money to pay your taxes, you could live alone, so you could buy your own food, etc. But there are a lot of disadvantages if you do this and they are the following ones. You won’t have enough time to attend to classes, do your homework or to study, so, possibly, you might fail, and you would have to study for your exams again to pass the subjects. Something else that might happen to you would be that you would be late for your classes if you have to work more hours. Other thing is that you won’t have enough time to meet your friends because you would have to be working or studying, so, you won’t have a very good social life. So, to sum up, I think that having a job while you are a student can be so difficult and you could fail.
