10. An important story in the news

This last summer, we discovered in the news and thanks to social media that there were a lot of manifestations around the world to stop racism. It all happened when, unfortunately, George Floyd was murdered in the United States. I say that is an important new because we can’t’ let people kill others because of their skin colour. George was a 46-year-old man chocked by a police officer that arrested him. People’s lives are a human right and we can’t take them off. When I first saw the news, I was so sad because they had taken off a free life, but, at the same time, happy because that was going to let the world know that black lives matter and we can’t disregard them because their skin colour. I knew in that moment that we, as humans, were going to take a step forward in this continuous battle for equality.

9. American custom I like

The American custom I love is punctuality. As in other countries, people try to be very punctual when they want to meet people somewhere. Last year I met a family from the United States that were spending their summer holidays in the same city as I was. One day, while they were touring around the city, they asked me good places to have dinner and I was able to get to know them a little bit more. I recommended them the restaurant my family and I were used to go every night in summer, and I told them that they could have dinner with us to be able to know my family. That night, when we arrived at the restaurant, they were there already there. I was fascinated with their punctuality and the fact that they told me in which they said that Americans try to be so punctual. I try to be punctual, but they were more than my family and me. I loved that idea, and I hope it could be done in my country as equal as in the United States.

8. The people I live with

My family is so important for me. I live with my parents and my two siblings, who are fraternal twins. We live in a very big apartment where we spend almost our entire days together. My parents are the best people I’ve ever known. My mother is a year older than my father. She is always there for me when I need somebody. My father is so especial for me because he has always helped me with all I’ve needed and still do this. They are the best married couple you will ever know. They love each other as the first day and they promise they will do for the rest of their lives. They are the most reliable people I know, and you can trust them for everything. They are very good role models because they have shown me and my siblings almost everything we know, and they have always been there for us. My two siblings are so important for me because when was a child, I wanted to have a brother and a sister, and, fortunately, they are fraternal twins. They are six years younger than me, so there is a l...

7. Being on time

When you are going to meet somebody and you are expecting for that moment to come, you don’t like him or her to be late, right? To be punctual is supposed to be a very difficult quality in our society nowadays. I’m going to speak from my own experience when I wanted to meet my friends and almost all of them arrived late. All my friends know that I usually try to arrive on time to the place we want to meet, so, I prepare myself a few minutes before to be there at minimum 5 minutes before they come. I hate making people to wait for me, and as a person who is on time almost all the time, I don’t like to wait for them.   Sometimes, I’ve been waiting more that half and hour for one person that was late and it’s so boring to be alone for all that time, even when you have something to do. In that cases, you always think that they won’t come or maybe, you think about coming back home. Punctuality matters for me so much because I think that if you arrive on time to places where you want to ...

Practice 7. Rewriting a descriptive paragraph

"I live next to a huge park" The park next to my house is plenty of trees and a lot of people go there every day. There is a huge lake in the middle of it where most people enjoy spending their time. You can rent a small boat to row through the lake to spend a few minutes looking at the amazing views. If you are thirsty or hungry, there are two kiosks where you can buy some drinks or snacks. As the park is next to the mountains, you can see that there are a lot of long paths where you can walk or do exercise around the countryside, so you can explore nature at the same time you try to keep fit. Once a week, there are a lot of activities to do such as painting, yoga into the woods or dancing. They are opened to everyone who want to join. That park is so important for me because I’ve spent a lot of time with my family and friends learning new things about nature or doing exercise.

PEER-EDITING Her paragraph:  The use of cell phones has changed so much if we compare this decade to the past  and in my opinion this could bring so many consequences in new generations. For some people this consequences may be fine but for me they aren't. We are starting to watch this changes in young people, especially in childrens. They see their parents using their phones all the time and for instance their own parents let them use their phones to play games, watch videos etc... More and more things are turning to be online, for example, people now read the newspaper in their phones so in a few years newspaper may dissapear. If we continue using our phones in an abusive way in the future everything will be technologic and books, magazines etc will dissapear.  My correction: The use of cell phones has changed so much if we compare this decade to the past ones decades and . I n my opinion , this could bring so many consequences in new generations. For some people this ...

Practice 5. Rewriting and proof-reading

3 Practice B (page 93) Text 3.1: "The main risk of interview employees." Normally, any organisations that allows researchers to interview its employees, runs a big risk. It could happen because they could complain about their boss or other workers. Moreover, the danger is that employees would feel obligated to give positive answers instead of their own opinions because they can be afraid about what their boss finding out what they really think. Also, the reputation of the organisation would suffer, so researches mustn't let it happen. For example, if they say clearly why the are doing the research, and maintain the anonymity of their employees, the organisation won't run a risk anymore. If this doesn't happen, there are a lot of chances to be in danger again. 4 Proof-reading Text 4.1: "Opportunities for non-European businesses in Europe." Many non-European businesses are aiming to enter single European market because they see an unexploited potential her...

A yare ago, in my city, a man suffered from a traffic accident. He was a young man who lived in a different city, but he came to my city to work. While he was walking through the pavement while he went to his job place. Another man who tested drunk when police arrested him, was driving his car in a very dangerous road. As he was drunk and didn’t know what he was doing, turned left and, unfortunately, run over the man who was going to his job. The man, whose identity is still unknown, died in that moment and the one who was driving, tried to escape from the police, but, fortunately, he was caught by them. Now, the driver is in prison. That is just a reminder to remember that we can’t be drunk while we are driving.

5. My favourite sport to play or watch

My favourite sport of all times is football, which is one of the most popular sports in the world. It consists in hitting the ball until you score a goal. Eleven players in every team compete to win, and, I think that it is so exciting. I am not keen on my local team because my grandfather loved Atlético de Madrid as a team, which is in Madrid. Football passes from generation to generation, and thanks to my grandfather, I discovered football. I have been able to go to the Atletico de Madrid stadium twice to watch a match and I could meet two players in Granada last year in the hotel we were hosted. I was so happy that day because I had been wanted to meet at least one of them since I was a child. In my opinion, football is a good way to spend your time, either watching it or playing it. I love playing it, but my friends and I can’t because of the coronavirus. So, instead of playing it, we must stay home and watch the matches of our favourite teams for not losing our sporting spirit. We...

4. Learning to play a sport

Since I was a child, I have loved football. I also love watching it on tv, or, if I have the opportunity, I like going to the stadiums to watch a match of my favourite team. I remember watching the with my grandfather, who showed me how to play football and gave me a lot of tips to help me while playing it. I will always remember those moments. I have never played it professionally because I just wanted to play it with my friends at school or in a park near my house. When I was eight years old, I twisted my ankle while I was playing football with some friends and I had to go to the hospital because it was so painful. Fortunately, it was mild so I just had to stay home a few days to get better. I think that was my worst injure playing a sport. Of course, I’ve had a lot of injures where I scratched my legs or arms, but they weren’t so grave. I believe that playing a sport can be as living your life. In football you can be the one that kicks the ball or the one who doesn’t, the team who l...

Practice 4. Cell phone manners.

Imagen
Narrowing Cell phone manners > buying cell phones to very young child > addiction > addiction on child and teenagers > looking at the phone every few minutes > unhealthy > headache and eyestrain. Brainstorming : Clustering method. My paragraph Nowadays, the continuous use of cell phones is a very controversial topic because it causes a lot of problems. For one thing, there are a lot of parents that buy cell phones to their younger sons at a very early age. For example, they give their cell phones while they are eating, so, it causes very bad habits since childhood. Having cell phones can be also very addictive to teenagers because of social media. I think that addiction is so unhealthy because you could have problems such as headache and eyestrain in a very close future.

3. A hobby

One of my favourite hobbies, is playing piano but, I have other one which is not that musical. It is reading books. It doesn’t matter what type they are because I can read fiction novels, thrillers, romantic novels, etc. Since I was a child I’ve loved to read because you can travel to other places around the world or even the universe. It also improves your imagination, what is good for kids at a very early age. In my bedroom, I have huge bookshelves to keep all my books since I was a child. I love reading because you can imagine the characters, their personality and the world around them. I think that reading books is one of the best hobbies for me because while you read through the pages and you touch them, you can fell their emotions too, so you can know the characters a little bit more. I also love how a new book smells, and that is one of the main reasons why I read paper books and not the electronic ones. I know that this hobby can be quite expensive sometimes, because physical b...

2. A special skill I have

Since I was a child, I’ve always loved to play instruments, so, when I was seven years old, my parents singed me at the conservatory of my city. I started to learn how to play the transverse flute. But I quit it because I wanted to play a more functional instrument that I heard in almost every song I listened to, and it was the piano. Then, I understood that the more I played piano, the more I loved it, so it became one of my passions and one of my favourite hobbies. When I was ten years old, I started learning how to play piano while I had my eyes closes, and I saw I loved the idea, so I practiced it as much as I could and now, I know how to play piano without seeing the piano keyboard.

1. How my life has changed since I went to the United States

Two years ago, I decided to sign up for an exchange in the United States because I loved the idea of spending almost a year there. My parents were a little bit afraid about it, but I convinced them, so they let me go to study almost one year there. Of course, I was sure that I wanted to live there, but, when the time came, I was nervous because I’m a very familiar person and I was going to spend almost a year without living them. When the day to fly arrived, I was so excited, and at the airport, I met a very nice girl that became one of my best friends. She also hosted in the same neighbourhood as me, so we went to the same high school. When I arrived in New York (my exchange city), I had my first culture shock when I met my host family. There they never give other people two kisses, they can give you a handshake, or maybe a hug, so it was very strange to me knew that my entire way to see the life would change. I didn’t mind about it because I knew I was there to learn about a lot of n...

Practice 2. My first paragraph.

Reading novels is very important and I think everybody should do it at least 10 minutes a day. Novels and books improve people's imagination, especially, in the childhood, while it is being developed in kids. According to many scientist researches, kids who read a lot while their childhood, improve their imagination and other skills so much and have a very creative life, while others who don't read, don't have. It's proved that a lot of important artists, read while their childhood and entire life, that is why they were and are so creative.
